I’m really feeling the need to do something positive to help people who are in difficulties due to Covid-19 so I’ve decided to auction one of my artworks and give the entire proceeds of the auction to the local Uist and Barra Foodbank. I’ve chosen the painting shown below, ‘North Uist, Looking West’. It is an original painting – acrylic on canvas, 50 x 70 cm (about 20 x 28 inches), unframed (but it can be hung without a frame). I’d like to set a ‘reserve’ of £300 which is well below the normal selling price. This cause is very important in the current difficult circumstances so please bid generously.

All you have to do to bid for the painting is to visit my page on Facebook, ‘like’ this post and ‘share’ it to your timeline, and then place your bid in the comments section of the post. If you are outbid and would like to bid again you are free to do so as many times as you like. At the end of 24 hours (i.e. 6 pm today – Sunday 3rd) the highest bid gets the painting. Today I’ve been experimenting with a technique which I discovered from studying one of my favourite artists – #ørnulfopdahl, one of Norway’s foremost landscape painters. The technique uses oil paint but with a medium called ‘oil tempera’ where basically linseed oil is mixed with egg and a small amount of water. This has the magical effect of enabling the artist to dilute oil paint with water (in a very unpredictable way which leads to fascinating textures). This is my first attempt and I’m very excited to try it on other subjects in the coming days and weeks! As this technique is new to me I’m not offering this one for sale as I’d like to test its stability and how long it takes to dry.
